About Us

We are a families ministry of St Alfred’s Anglican Church, Blackburn North, Vic, Australia.  We promote safe, responsible four wheel driving in a sustainable environment through our free driver training course.  While we don’t run monthly meetings, we do run a number of day or weekend trips with the occasional trip into the outback.

Membership

Membership is free and is open to anyone.  There are very few prerequisites to joining our Easy or 2WD Trips.  Medium rated trips and above will require you to have completed our free Proficiency 4WD Training Course.  Please read our Code of Ethics to see if membership is suitable for you.       More about Membership

Our Mission

St Alfred’s 4WD Group has a twofold focus:

  • Providing 2WD and 4WD day trips and camps to members, families and friends.
  • Providing advanced 4WD training to missionaries, overseas aid workers and members.

4WD Training

We offer free 4wd training which is run by our two accredited instructors and a team of trained helpers (learn more). Our mission focus is to also offer this training to missionary organizations.  If you would like to become involved in this rewarding work, we would love to help you through a short training course.  Send us a message on our Contact Us page.

Code Of Ethics

  • We promote safe, responsible four wheel driving in a sustainable environment.
  • Respect the rights of others to choose whichever 4wd vehicle suits their particular needs. We do not condone sledging of any make of vehicle.
  • Do not leave your campfire unattended without first fully extinguishing it with water. Also extinguish any other unattended campfires or report it to Parks Vic or relevant body if you don’t have sufficient water.  Covering the fire with dirt is not adequate.
  • Clear tracks of fallen trees if safe to do so. This facilitates an exit in the case of a bushfire. This also reduces the workload for the relevant authority.
  • Alcohol may be consumed responsibly at the end of a day’s trip or at a group luncheon, providing it does not contravene local laws or statutes.

The following is used with permission from Four Wheel Drive Victoria.

  • Obey the laws and regulations for Recreational Vehicles that apply to public lands.
  • Respect the cultural, heritage and environmental values of public/private land, by obeying restrictions that may apply.
  • Respect our flora and fauna. Stop and look, but never disturb.
  • Keep to formed vehicle tracks.
  • Keep the environment clean. Carry your own, and any other, rubbish out.
  • Keep your vehicle mechanically sound and clean to reduce the environment impact.
  • Adopt minimal impact camping and driving practices.
  • Seek permission before driving on private land. Do not disturb livestock or watering points, leave gates as found.
  • Take adequate water, food, fuel, basic spares and a first aid kit on trips. In remote areas travel with another vehicle and have Royal Flying Doctor Service, or equivalent, radio contact.
  • Enjoy your recreation and respect the rights of others.
  • Plan ahead and lodge trip details with a responsible person.
